Participate / Pop Up Shop
Estes Valley artists and creative businesses came together to present the town’s first official Pop Up Shop in February. The line-up for this initial event included visual arts (jewelry, ceramics, travel posters, watercolor, and film) to performance art (live music and storytelling) to Snowy Peak’s wines, which are fermented and bottled right here in Estes Park!
Area youth followed up with a second pop-up shop in April. Estes Park High School and recent graduates shared their drawings, blown glass, music, watercolor, photography and more.
The idea of a Pop Up Shop is to transform an unused space in a downtown district for the presentation or sale of art. It is meant to be fun, exciting, delightful, and promote interaction between artists and viewers. A Pop Up Shop is also an opportunity to re-invigorate unused retail space, or bring new audiences into an existing space. A gracious thank you to Jenna and Sharon from the Park Theater, who offered the use of a former scrap booking store along the Park Theatre Mall for the inaugural event.
The Arts District is interested in supporting more of these events. Who's next? If you would like to host or know of a great space, or if you are an artist interested in participating, please contact us >> [email protected]

Inaugural Pop Up Shop Artists included:
Claudia Farber / Jeweler
I started my business in the hills of Kentucky. The scenery inspired me; it was breathtaking and my work reflected the beauty there. I've been making jewelry most of my life. I was a designer for a goldsmith in Iowa, where I learned metalsmithing, and I created designs for his beautiful stones. I have lived in Estes Park for just over two years. I work full time but enjoy creating jewelry that, again, reflects the beauty of my surroundings. I lean towards a Southwestern theme in my work. I work mostly with .999 Fine Silver, .925 Sterling Silver, semi-precious stones, pearls, and wood. Each piece is hand crafted and one-of-a-kind. I do custom work and (when my schedule allows) repairs. My work can be seen and purchased locally at The Cultural Arts Council. >> see more at www.aspengrovestudioco.com Audem Gonzales / Travel Posters

Nadine Fichera / Watercolor
I suspected I was an artist at the age of 8 when, like a mad scientist, I disappeared into my bedroom and attempted to draw a masterpiece—Snoopy. At the age of 10, I collaborated with my brother to create a wall mural of cartoons featuring several Hanna-Barbera cartoons. Standing on a ladder, paintbrush in hand--this was the moment I knew I was an artist. I studied graphic arts in Houston with a special interest in illustration and portraiture, using multi-media: pencil, pastel, acrylic, and ink. Watercolor is a new medium and a new love. In addition to creating visual art, I am a singer/ song-writer and have enjoyed performing at many venues in Estes Park over the years. Kurtis Kelly / Storyteller
Kelly is a local storyteller, known for his performances of local, historical characters. Hear the dramatic story of Enos Mills in his first-person narrative, evoking a time when grizzlies still roamed Colorado and a national park was an elusive dream. For his tireless efforts, Enos Mills (1870-1922) is remembered as the father of Rocky Mountain National Park and a visionary who heralded the modern field of guided nature interpretation. His 1884 arrival in Colorado at age 14 was the start of an abiding reverence for the mountains and nature. Five years later, a chance encounter with John Muir inspired him to wonder: could he do for the Rocky Mountains what Muir did for Yosemite? Karen McPherson / Ceramics
Like many in this Valley, I wander and observe the Rocky Mountains. The rocks are weathered— in some instances, becoming polished, in others, exposing surfaces that lie beneath. The mountains are severe, proud, and expansive. They are also crumbling, tearing, and falling apart. I take all of this character with me to the studio. I have a love affair with clay-- sometimes that manifests itself by making pots, or figurative pieces, or clunky squished/ripped/pounded objects. I am restless in my clay forms and surfaces, but what stays with me is a desire to make work that is worth investigating, that people want to hold, and to handle.
